changing body colour

hey.i need advice when it comes to changing the colour of my beetle from maroon to metalic silver.the paint guy advise d me to make sure i apply an undercoat of black before applying the silver undercoat so that it soaks up the maroon,so that in the future i dont have maroon showing or seeping under the silver.problem is that the guy painting my body insists that the 2 layers of primer plus the silver undacoat is enuf.help!!is black necesary

Scuff original paint with P400, then paint 2 coats black primer...
Use a silver bottom coat, then paint with your silver base coat, then clear.
