Senator Richard Burr's VW Thing.

VW's aircooled mini SUV. Great for riding in the country, or cruising the beach.

If one of the politicians in my state drove a Thing, and there were no other difference between him/her and the competition, they'd have my vote just for that. And, he wasn't just driving somebody else's car!

I'm impressed. And that's a rare thing for me to say about a politician.

I've been sitting on the fence about voting for Burr simply because I think the day of the career politician is over. But I now think that anyone that holds onto any car for that long has to have some fiscal and financial fortitude. Lord knows the 2 Dems (dim of wit) vying for his seat think Obama is the second coming and can do no wrong. Gotta go with Burr in Nov.

The guy is full of bull pucky. If you watch the second video you will see what I mean. He only fuels it three times a year implying it get incredible gas mileage. Assuming he gets 20 mpg that gives only around 500 miles annually.

It is actually the reporter making many of the outlandish statements but they makes it sound like the Burr's Thing is the most fuel efficient vehicle out there, and there is mention of 40 mpg. Burr also says he is worried about the safety of high gas mileage cars, while driving around in vehicle with no roll over protection, little front impact protection, and if he has seat belts he is not seen putting them on. Speaking off the cuff I would guess that this guy is a hypocrite and will oppose most any new safety standards for new cars when they come along as well.

He's a politician - of course he's a hypocrite! Politicians are dishonest, manipulative, and power hungry by their very nature - I'm confident that his opponents are similar. At least he has a car I admire.
