When I had the recon engine fitted +- 3000 miles ago, The mechanic mentioned to me that one of the rear swing axle boots were in a bad condition, I told him to replace it. Now the other one started leaking (My mistake, I should have ordered both replaced!)
I notice that on both these split boots the split is to the front of the car. The Haynes manual tells me that the split must be towards the rear.
Does it make a diff?

It shouldn't make a difference, but if you are going to replace it anyway you might as well put it on according to the manual. I suspect it was put on facing forward because it was easier for the person to get the screws in that way.
