Automatic Bug?

Ok to answer the question,"Automatic"
The auto-matic bugs dont have a true auto tranny, you have to shift the gears but with out the clutch, they have the little white lines on the speedo to show u where to shift.
they mite have made a true automatic later in life not sure.?. havent heard of one
Hope this helps

Automatic Bug?

The Beetle's version of an "Automatic" was the auto-stick. The car had I believe 2 forward driving ranges and 1 reverse. After a few years, VW added a Park to the trans. From what I recall, the car can be started from a standstill in any of the driving ranges. There is no clutch and you simply move the gearshift lever from low range to high range while driving.

The torque converter used wasn't the best in that it lost quite a bit of power which results in a Beetle with even less power than a stock standard transmission version.

Parts are harder to find than for a standard shift.

There are many who love them though.

Hope this helps.

Automatic Bug?

It is simple the shifthandle from a stickshift looks like a normal manual, 3 forward gears (2 for normal use) one rear . The system is from Sachs germany also know as the Saxomat. The normal automatic looks like a regular automatic and is from Borg Wagner??? I think. I know one on a 1600 type3, but never see this on a Bug. I have one Stick Shift Ghia, maybe for the USA it is fine.
But it cost a lot of power and speed.
Is this bug a 1600cc, then this is also the maximum power the Stick Shift system can handle.
