carpet ideas?

Post by rumblbug »

My bug went in the shop today to replace the pans, which were covered with holes I didn't think were possible. I need to order new black carpet soon, and I was wondering if anyone had gotten a really good deal or a bad one from any particular business. Who has the best deal? Also what kit(s) should I use to cover everything in the interior?

Thanks-

T.M.I. has the best kits. They cost a little more, but it all fits so great and saves you SOOOO-much hassle. And some good spray adhesive,I use "super 77" it rocks!but there are alot more out there.J-bugs have some nice kits as well, but they are X-pensive(really).For cheapo stuff,I don`t have any good reccomendations(J.C. whitney?)
Do a little stretching before installing, you`ll need it(all those hard to reach places and bending & twisting)Good Luck!!

I'm sorry but I cant agree with you on that one. I'm not rich (belive me!!) but to be able to pay $300 for carpet kit, (& 3 piece carpet in back), ALL seat covers, ALL door panels, one piece headliner (w/ door posts), Video on how to do it all, hog rings and pliers, and headliner glue. ALL FOR $300!!! Sorry but you can't beat that!! (It's all TMI by the way) Get a J-bugs/Cal Pacific catalog, (free) and check it out!!!

You`re right,J-bugs sells a whole kit and is affordable and nice But,Quality is relative to the person(s)buying. It all depends I guess,if you`re goin` for ultimate or show quality.I have seen door panels that cost $30.00 or $50.00 and I have seen ones that cost $100.00
There was a huge difference(weight, materials, craftsmanship etc..)Same w/carpet kits, some are so flimsy and are fraying once they hit the floors, others are so thick and heavy its obvious which one(s) are better. But its up to you and your standards to choose(and check book)BTW,J-bugs have a few kits ranging from $300.00(2 colors blk. or charcoal) & up. And once again, you get what you pay for.
Thanks for putting up with that winded post.

I am just putting the German Square weave I got from Sewfine in my notch. I'm Very impressed with it and the quality is fantastic. But it is also the most expensive mail order I have seen (for a T3). I got a TMI kit hoping to replace a piece that was damaged, not worn, in my bug but the stuff I thought wasn't worth putting in, wanna buy it? it's oatmeal.

Rocky Mountain use to have some really good quality kits but they swithed and I won't get the TMI stuff that they sell now.

It is all relative, cheap is cheap and looks like crap if you use the car very much, and that is not Very Much. Then you replace it, and then you replace again ..........................

how is your wallet size?

I don't plan on spending more than $200. I only need the carpet for the floors and the area in the back behind the seat. How much is this kit fom TMI? (just the carpet) Or that German square weave (and what is this?)

Thanks again,

I just ordered a TMI carpet kit (today) from John C. at Aircooled.net. The carpet kit(black) covers the whole passenger area and the delux kit (loop weave)cost a woppin $63! add $12 for cloth trim, instead of knit throw in padding and Im out about $100 bucks!!! This seems cheap to me. Another thing - I contacted a lot of mailorder places and 1 local shop and nobody had it in stock - 2 to 3 weeks. Aircooled had it so I will have it by Friday

I do not know if this is true, but my local dealer told me that TMI has two qualities. Is this true????
