6 inch wide wheels

Post by Flatfourfool »

I have heard 5.5 is the widest runable with out issues but I thought ide ask if anyone here run 6 inch wide wheels on their balljoint/irs ghia? I am looking into geting into some 16 inch fuchs and the narrowest they come in is 6 inch, I believe the offset is 38 mm does anyone know the word on this?

Just to give you more information but I have 16X6 1/2 wheels under my 74 Ghia and I had to adjust the steering stops to keep the wheels from rubbing on the inside. In a ghia a 1/2" less in width would make a big difference. With the 6 1/2" wide wheels I have a huge turning radius. I have found a company to cut them down to 16x5 1/2.

16 / 6 fuch have 36 offset. I have 34 offset 6"/15" wheels and I clear the guards nicely but I have limited turning circle. I trimmed the top of the shock towers and adjusted the steering stops. i run a 195 /55 tyre on 15" wheels. So the fuch will fit and work with a 195/50 but you will loose a bit of turning circle. The fly in the ointments though is every Ghia seems a bit different. Good luck

16x6 front and 16x7 rear. Not mine, but I think it was stock beam and short axle swing with a spacer. He said a 2" narrowed beam would be perfect.
