Anyone have a good T4 exhaust for my T1?
I am looking for a good exhaust to use on my future T4 powered bug. Anyone know of any that are cheaper than BAS?
Thanks,
Bri

Update:
I found out that among many other goodies, FAT supposedly has some exhausts. The problem is there catalog is still about to come out. When I find one I will let you know.

FAT does indeed sell an exhaust for the upright Type 4 installed in a Beetle. It's really similar to the merged headers sold for the Type 1. It is pictured in the catalog they've had for the last couple years.

Yes FAT makes a very nice collector exhaust. It's not cheap as the price I think is around $250 with dual QP's my friend purchase one and it is very high quality 1 5/8 tubing. I wouldn't call it a merged as they do, more of an extractor. It sounds deep and throaty on his stock displacement, mild cammed dual 44 webered 2.0 liter. It fit on his 72 standart beautifully. well made. Personally, I'd purchase the header and make or buy a turbo style muffler. I bet that would sound really deep. Ron

I bought the FAT exhaust for $250.oo. It works great, but who ever welded the dual quiet packs has a crooked eye. Performance wise it seems to work fine. It looks just like dual quiet packs for a Type I. I'm going to weld up my own turbo style muffler soon.

I contacted FAT about 4 weeks ago about the same exhaust. In the 1996 cat it loos like it is just the header part up to the heater boxes. But after speaking to them it is a 2pc header w/ daul QP's. I asked them for a price without the QP's and he said $255, price w/ is $305. It looks like as the awarness gets larger here in the States that we are paying the price. note** I hate supply in demand(did I fail to mention I am a retail mgr LOL
).
For those that have one share more about there construction and durability. Do they come w/ that cheap ass black coating that Bugpack puts on their exhaust? Do they rust up fast like B/P or S&S headers do? I guess this calls for an extra $100 for aluminized/ zinc/ ceramic coating?

Try POR-20 instead of the $100 coating. I haven't used it but VW Trends thinks its great!Aircooled.net stocks it!

Yes I also just bought the FAT system. I stripped all the cheap ass black paint, and put some eastwood silver header paint. Looks nice and is supposed to work good, and is easier to put on than por, no over required. I will let you know how it works.

Yes it comes in black and burns off quickly. I used some spray on header paint from Summit but it didn't last. the header set up is nice and the pipes that come off the head have a pipe for each cylinder so they should scavange correctly. I saw a set of pipes at a show that merged one into the other then went to the header set up.

If the Fat costs 255, why not spend 100$ more and buy the Ahnendorp header from Oliver?!?!? Then you have a proper 4 into 1 merged setup. This is my plan at least. I am going to buy a pile of mandrel 180s from Summit or Jeggs (you have these pipes yet John C.?) and a 304 Stainless Ultraflow and build my own silencer setup.
