Bought a 70 Bay that the PO had sold the beam insides out of, so we bought a beam that the tubes were rusted on and figured we' just pull pull it apart and transfer the the spring pack and arms over to the good tubes.
If I ever get the chance to do this again, I' will just drop a 2lb hammer on my dodads and be done with the pain......This is one of, if not the biggest mess I gotten into. Top pack went in complete, no problem. The bottom one, no way in hell after much time wasted found the leaves were twisted and gave up on them and will replace the bottom pack with a threaded rod for now, from what I've read has been done. Now back to the top, WTF! pack is in and locked in place with the center grub. to line up the arm grub with the notch in the leaves the arm is on the wrong side of the bump stop. What the are we doing wrong! Thanks in advance.

Re: 70 Bus beam HELP!!!
To put a set of leaves in I wrap the leaves with several wraps of wire and then tighten the heck out of it so that it holds the leaves in place. Don't know enough about the various years to know if they take different length leaves. Was you donor beam narrowed?

Re: 70 Bus beam HELP!!!
Standard width beam, going to try tapering them a little so as not to have to be perfect on lining them up to go through, also a light tack weld to hold them together. I read that the factory did it that way; and in looking at the end I saw that they had been. Amazing what you can see when you remove years of grease
