quick question

looking to buy a 69 ghia, body a little dented, paint is bad, was in a crash and you can see a bend in the front left fender and a few other spots throughout the front area and the nose and headlights, the whole interior needs to be replaced, transmission might need to be replaced(1st gear pops out and seller isnt sure if its just something that needs to be tightend or replaced), very slight leak, battery floor and clutch floor are good, mechanics are great though, runs good, pretty much every aspect of the car working like a car is fine except for the tranny, its just the cosmetics are... umm.. ya.

im not much of a collector i just really like the look of the car and its my type of vehicle, plus i like working on stuff like this

just curious on what a reasonable price would be on this guy,

not much, it's easy to sink $10,000 into a restoration to find the car is only worth $5000 when done. If you can pick it up cheap $500-700 and only sink $2000-$3000 into it may be a good deal. I'm no expert on auto values but to do a complete frame off restoration costs the same on a car worth $3000 as it does a car worth $40,000.

What is the seller asking? Check the classifieds here and at the samba.com for the asking price for similar age and condition Ghias. Your location also contributes to value. A car people on the east coast would jump at, people on the west coast would use as a parts car.

hes asking 3000 because i guess the 69 is a rare model of the ghia's. seems a little high to me but if thats what its worth than thats what its worth. good advice though, i will take a look around and see what i can find

Hi Superstar,

Not the '69 in and of itself, but the 1969/70/71 Ghias have the original bumpers, but IRS rear suspensions, giving you the best of the old styling and the best suspension.

Lots of people dislike the 1972-74 bumpers and taillights.

Lots of people don't want a swing axle.

That really narrows the field, and a seller who knows that will be asking more for those three specific year models.

69 has the smaller taillights, and tends to be more desired for that.

I was told by my father in law who I got my car from that the 64 was rare and worth more because it had the smaller tail lights. I also found out that I actually have a 65 model year.
My buddy just sold a rare 1 of 27 hemi cuda. It was rare because it was 1 of 27 that had a white stripe on purple paint or something like that. He got $130,000 for the P.O.S. tank.
