914 single carb

Post by jimmyz »

I'm still in the process of building an upright conversion, but because I missed my buggy so much I went ahead and bought a running 1.7L 914 from my neighbor. He gave it to me for a steal but I didn't get any on the carb setup. So I'm looking for a cheap setup that will work. This is a stock 914 cooling setup and I am told there is a single carb setup by weber that will work. Any info or leads on where I can get one would be appreciated.

914 single carb

If you want cheap you can almost always find one on ebay. I can't recommend it because I haven't seen it, but there's one there right now, "VW 32/36 weber progressive carb w/intake, Item #484319170" No picture, though. All the T4 Weber Progressive manifolds will fit over either the 914 or T4 pancake tin. None that I know of will fit after the engine's been converted to an upright.

Most any of the VW parts importers should carry the progressives, though if you're going to buy new you'd be better served by a dual carb kit, which will still fit after you've converted to upright. The low priced Kadron kits are about the same price as a Weber progressive kit, but work better. And of course step up to Weber IDF's if you can.
