Not really a yes-or-no question.

The only downside to a stock pump is that if/when the diaphragm fails it may put quite a bit of gas into the crankcase before you realize there's a problem...for most applications they pump more than enough fuel.
With an electric pump there's often too much pressure, introducing a need for a regulator. For safety's sake, some sort of control circuit should be used so that the pump will stop when the engine does...both to protect the engine from filling up with gas if it stalls unattended, and to reduce the chances of a fiery death if you're knocked out in an accident.
So in general a stock-replacement pump is the better choice...the real question these days is where to find a good one.

Fully agree on that about finding a good replacement stock type pump. For quite a few years now, on each new pump I install, I have been knocking out the badly retained pivot pin and installing a bolt with a elastic lock nut. This eliminates one chance of a roadside breakdown with these newer cheesey pumps.
