Intake velocity is key for low rpm torque, so it makes sense.

The cam I run is the cb 2251 as I wanted a useable street car, not a race car.
It really suits my driving style as I prefer low end torque to high rev's.
The Dellorto 40's I use run out of steam at 6k and run out of torque well before that, so you would need 45's or 48's for all out performance.
I'm currently looking at converting back to a stock fi setup.
I have a friend (MarcoTheSteamEngine on here) who builds and races these engines and he tell's me that it will work fine with my current engine setup.
This is probably true for the rev range I drive in but as mentioned it would not cut it for racing.
Personally I like that fact I can drive around town and get good mileage but when the situation arises the bug can easily embarrass the unsuspecting

It wants another 1krpm to be at it's best, I could tell. A lot of overlap on it, roughish idle, but the vac signature had such wide variation that I was able to tune the AFM, no lambda, to cruise at 16+:1 but go into 12's under load. Funniest thing was that when I ran 1:1 rockers on intakes and 1.25 on exh, it had killer torque right off idle.

Aircooled.net used to sell chips for late wassers... The shop that made them can still do it, although the price has likely gone up.

They had increased rev cut and modified fuel/timing tables.

(I looked into it awhile back, now I'd just stick a MS on it, no emissions checks where I live, not even visual, and a MAF sensor becomes an option)

The stock intake setup is a very well designed bit for a motor with a near stock powerband.
There are also possible alternative plenum configurations that could provide a considerable boost over 6K with slightly shortened runners.
Just going Speed density and bolting an air cleaner on the TB (eliminating the AFM and funky flex tube)should provide a very considerable change in the intake tuning...
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Yeah I wouldn't toy around with the stock ECU's EPROM either, just go to MS or some other aftermarket system.

We actually changed out the clock chip in one stock ECU with a chip my EE buddy had laying around, it did raise the fuel cutoff rpm, but it wasn't the optimum clock speed to use and it would become unstable after a few minutes running.

I've taken over mixture in closed-loop with the LC1 setup and two lambda signal channels, I've written about it several times. That and maybe the CB digital diz they make would let you tune fuel and spark all on the back of the stock system, and for not a lot of money, but then there's still that stubborn fuel cutoff not letting you use the full potential that you could realise if you could just have another thousand revs.

Fasty, its the 2.1 ex turbo motor. now Engle 140 x 125 rockers, 11:1 comp, ports/heads/mans flowed, 45 dells x 40 vents . 34 deg advance on optimax. going to web 86c cam as we speak, possibly 1.4 rockers, depends if it needs clearancing/ valves etc.
the 2.5 Okrasa is back in the car, re' ongoing oil problems, whish me luck for start up over the hols. hope i've cured it, regards and a good Christmas BBB.

Guys, i think Tencent will confirm the dreadfull alignment of the stock injection intake runners,
their way off, very restrictive, I had a parts hauler that had only 1.25 rockers and a mild port job, and a good match port/manifold re align, that noticably woke it up, it flew.

That's for sure, the intake runner end castings' port holes always need to be hogged out to match the head ports, just one of the many little things that add up to better performance.

Hi

Years ago I decompressed a DJ motor to 8.0:1 comp in preparation for turbo. It had stock cam, 1.4 rockers, cleaned up heads, bigger throttle body, Beetle headers and Autronic SMC management.

It made 86 hp at the wheels in a bug, VW rate the MV with 9.0:1 at 90 hp at the flywheel

a little bit goes a long way with these motors.
