Thinking of building a new motor for my rail. Just want to know what would be the best way to go? Want it for trail riding and have no problems climbing hills. has to be bigger than 1641

I'm not a rail car/dune buggy guy but if you want your engine bigger than 1641 go with a 1914cc. It will cost the same as 1776 or 1835 and give you more power. I'm guessing you don't want to build a stroker motor.
Anything larger than 1641 requires the case and heads to be opened up for the larger bore. You'll pay the same for the precedure so why not go for the 94's.

67 T1 - Resto Custom
62 T1 - Restoration
71 SB (2)- Long Gone

Hello,
I'm a long-time sandrailer/offroader.
-Let me tell you- big valves, big cam, big carbs will make you un-happy.
Go with a W100 (style) cam for a small motor, W110 MAX for a larger motor.
Get some 36 or 40 Dells, don't even screw around with Webers.
Don't hog out your ports, just a clean-up and match.
Save the big valve heads for a race or hot-street motor, or you'll have a motor that won't "come on" 'till the upper RPM Range.
This will remove from the bottom end, and the fun, I Promise you I have seen these mistakes made before.

The cheap way-
Find a good case with 8mm cylinder studs. I can not find one, then run 90.5 cylinders.
Get a stock forged crank
stock valve heads with a good clean up and three angle valve job. Spend your money here and pay a local race shop to do a good three angle valve job after you port them a little.
You are just going to blend the area under the seats so it smooth, open the intake up to match the size of the stock metal gasket.
On the exhaust, smooth the bend under valve where it flows out the head. There is a sharp 90 degree turn and you are just going to smooth it out so it's not so sharp. DO NOT make the port larger!
Use new exhaust valves and single heavy duty springs
Cam is web 218. do not even consider any other cam.
Carbs is is any dual setup you can get cheap, prefere the dells as above, but the weber 40 idfs are nice also.
Exhaust is 1.5 with free flowing muffler
Should be good for about 86 hp and 107 ft lbs of torque. DTD shows 31 hp and 82 ft lbs at a lowly 2000 rpm.

So I think I'm looking at 1776. I built a 2165 and I can't keep the car on four wheels. I put a stock 1600 in and it's coming right back out, want to use that case for the rebuild. Thanks for the info.
