couple of questions

Post by mentalQtip »

I'm trying to get an engine cleaned up and back in a bus. I have a '77 with fuel injection. I drove this bus for a couple of years and it leaked oil quite a bit. I pulled the engine and pulled everything off, meaning the fuel injection wires and hoses and tin and cleaned everything. When I pulled the engine one of the studs on the bottom where the engine and transmission mate together came out. How do I know how far to thread the stud back in and do I use an adhesive, like loctite?

I was surprised how many cracks in the bellhousing there were and the area was pretty dirty. Is the case ruined? It actually ran pretty well and started better than most. Any thoughts?

Thanks

cracks are probably just casting marks. As for the stud, just drive it in, if its the original stud it will go in till the non-threaded center section of it and stop, then the nut should tigthen back on. no big deal, no need for adhesive. However I don't reccomend driving it all the way in, since sometiems the stud is a bit short, and when you put it back inthe car it might not be long enough, just thread it in most of the way, you can probably drive it in further once its installed if you have to, but its not rocket surgery.
give a man a watch and he'll allways know what time it is. give him two and he can never be sure again.

Things are rarely just crazy enough to work, but they're frequently just crazy enough to fail hilariously.
