Scat Pulley Fits Loose on WBX Crank

Post by Stripped66 »

I'm currently running a new Scat dry sump pulley on my WBX crank and the fit is very loose. Whereas my Competition Engineering pulley was an absolute bear to get on, the Scat pulley slips nearly all the way on just using your hands. Recently I noticed that the pulley was moving axially along the crank about 1/8" at different RPMs (using the crank bolt as reference).

Anybody else have a similar experience with Scat pulleys on the WBX cranks (or Type 1's for that matter)?

I've contacted Jack to see if he makes a dry sump pulley with a groove for a fan belt...otherwise, I've asked if he would sell the steel hub separate from the pulleys that he currently stocks.

I figure I may machine my Scat pulley to bolt to the Jaycee hub. The only WBX pulleys I've seen posted in the classified ads are cast, 1-piece units.

Stripped, it may be its only the European spec pulley that are two piece, the only cast ones we see rarely are the heavy cast multi belt caravelle types with air con and p/s,they are tight on the crank due to the weight of them, so they must be common in the states, , also, our lightweight two piece wasser hubs slide on much looser than T1, also check the wasser crank snout is not undersized from T1, i think it is, as my T1 pulley is a light, push on hand fit, but its never given any problems or come loose.

Thanks for the info. Like I mentioned earlier, my Comp Engineering pulley fit very tight. My Scat pulley would likely tighten until it is flush with the end of the crank, possibly farther...I'm not terribly concerned about not having a tight fit, but I'm concerned about the fact it is walking up and down the snout of the crank when the engine is running. I don't want the pulley to walk into the #4 bearing or the nose of the case.

Jack cut me a hub with the WBX diameter at the seal. I modified my Scat dry-sump pulley to fit:
