Having issues with tailights, license plate, and dash lights not working. But the headlights work fine. Seems all the power comes through the light switch, but not sure if it is going back to the fuse box to power Fuse postion #1 and #2.
I am looking for 74 Lightswitch wiring picture, and need ideas on where to check why tailights, dash and license plate not working. Seems it should be related to Fuse 1 and 2
Yes, I was origianally installing replacement clock into dash, but only was messing wuth Accessory Fuse #7. But seems #7 also powers to 30 on lightswitch, and Fuse #10 powers to X on light switch, since headlights still working I believe power is getting to switch. I never touched wiring on/at the lightswitch.

The dash illumination ligthts are unfused, so the fact that they aren't working implies that the problem is not at S1/S2.
Either the switch has chosen this moment to go bad (a heck of a coincidence) or you've disconnected the red wire that feeds the parking light section of the switch from the "hot" side of S8. The headlamp section has a separate power source via the ignition switch.

That is interesting. ..... I didn't mention that when I was working on the accessory #7 with replacing the dask clock, that after I finished, the #7 was touching the hot side of the #8, and either my brake lights or tallights were staying lit. When I fixed it so they wouldn't touch,, but I did see a little spark, when I moved 7 from the 8 then I started having problem of not being able to get the taillights, dash lights, and license plate to come on, when pulling the switch .
But the headlights still come on fine. Does that change your thoughts. The 74 diagram is so hard to read and follow. Easier on the 72 diagram.

Not at all, as I said the lighting switch has two separate sources of power so if the headlamps work but the parking/tail/dashlamps don't the only likely faults are the switch itself or a lack of Term 30 power to the switch. Peer up at the switch (a mirror helps) to see if you may have tugged the red wire from the fusepanel loose from it as you were working.stevecollects wrote:...But the headlights still come on fine. The pre`73 pictorial diagrams are indeed far easier to follow, especially for the layman. Fortunately the `72 wiring is extremely similar and can be used to "get your bearings"...but you should always use the correct diagram for your car as the final reference when connecting the wires.
To the best of my knowledge Bentley never furnished a proper diagram for the `74 Karmann-Ghia with seatbelt interlock relay; when working in that area one must resort to using the `74 1303 Super Beetle diagram.

Re: Light switch schematic for 1974 Ghia
One last question. The 1974 1303 still not an easy diagram to use. Which one at the link is the one for the Super Beetle, and does it really match the 1974 Karmann Ghia with Seat belt.
Resolution, I did resolve last night. I had the accessory for radio, clock, and 30 lightswitch wire sitting on the S7 location as shown on the 1972 KG diagram. No constant power. So I moved it to the S8 position, where I had constant power, and everything resolved.
I still have two red wires on the S7 position , that I want to trace and see what they power up, but gotta use that terrible 1974 diagram.
