EDIS module and HAL sensor?

Post by Jadewombat »

I have a three-wire HAL sensor I got from DIY, I liked the threaded body so I'd be able to adjust the sensor distance to the trigger wheel. I'm also just wiring up the whole MSII to my bus in the process. Anyhoo, I already have the HAL sensor and bracket mounted and started wiring up the EDIS module but noticed that the HAL sensor wiring says to mount directly to the ECU on pins 24 and 26 instead of the EDIS module. Is it possible to still use the EDIS module by wiring in the HAL sensor to pins 5 and 7 or will the module only accept a signal from a VR sensor?

Either use the EDIS module or don't, that's my advice. Why monkey with the EDIS module, when you could direct drive coils from MS and avoid the VR conditioner by going with a hall sensor?

So you're saying the module ONLY works with a VR sensor, correct? I have thought about driving the coil pack directly from the ECU but that's about it. I can't solder worth a crap and I have 15 minutes a day on the weekdays to mess with the bus and about an hour or so on the weekends because of family time. During work I have more time to research things during my lunch hour, but I try to make the best of the time I have to actually work on the car.

It was a real PITA getting EDIS working on my bug with MJ because of the learning curve and some issues I had, but once I got it going and dialed it in I loved it, but now I'm more or less at the base of the learning curve again. Sorry if it sounds like I'm trying to take the easy way out. Admittedly if I had to do it over again I would've just plunked down the $1500 for a kit from Mario if I would've known a year or so ago I would have so little time to mess with the cars.

Thanks though.

I never said it wouldn't work (who knows, maybe it does), all I am saying is why mess with success? If EDIS works great with the VR sensor, why bother modifying it? You said it yourself, you have no time to mess with it. So just do the EDIS mod in the ECU, wire it up and drive.... :|

OK, will just grab a VR sensor and fit that. It's a lot less time and energy for me to just hook up the EDIS module. Thanks again.

I have never tried a Hall sensor on edis, but CB does make the bolt on VR trigger wheel, bracket, sensor, plug kit that's only $150, and will work with anything you do down the road.
