OK, i posted this on the type4rum, but got no response, so maybe i will have better luck here (when it gets going!).

Whats peoples experiences of lowering type 4's? My 411 has cut springs and they don't sit very well in the cups. Any other ideas? Someone said to me that Ford Capri springs work?

Are you talking about cutting the front or the rear or both? I highly suspect that you can use an adjustable strut housings and lowering springs from an early Super Beetle (1302 for those of you on the other side of the Atlantic). I've never gotten word of yeah or nay on it, but it's worth looking into. A comfy ride and a lowered stance would be great.

As for the rear, I really can't say. When the time comes that I find a nice 411/412, I was going to see about replacing the springs/shocks in the rear with airbags. That way I'd get the adjustability.

Keep us posted on what you find out.

How about having new springs made at a spring shop. They can make new springs in the stock configuration but shorter, and make them either stiffer or softer as you desire.

Yes custom springs are an option, but i depends on how much they are. I will do a bit of research on that.
I really must look into this suspension similarity with early 1303's and 1302's too. I have a later 1303 and so i can't really compare it. I will keep you posted...
