proof that a 911 can almost race with a Beetle, untill the bug warms up and vanishes that is,
no need for double a arms front and rear, just a b/j beam and IRS required, keep em light and easy to set up and away you go.. bad news for Porsche fans is i had a big brake problem with huge rear lock up so i was feeling for the limit at the beginning.. hope you like it. best regards BBB Johnny.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kllTdrIY ... re=related

As a big fan of both cars, I believe a direct comparison is unfair (apples to oranges). From the factory, the 911 is an entirely different animal. Yes, you can race prep a Bug for less than the cost of a stock 911 and perhaps smoke the 911. Notice the difference - race prep. The 911 will be just as comfortable and useful on the street as the day it left the factory, but tell me how many people want to climb in the Bug for a trip to the corner mart. Put the same sort of modifications into the 911, and you end up with a truly wild animal.
That's not even getting into the difference in drivers that vwo60 pointed out. Lets be honest, the majority of Porsche owners these days care about the car as a status symbol far more than a driving machine. No one will even think about doing what we do to VWs without first finding a love for the car and the open road.
Ok, I'm off my soapbox.

ah yes, what you say may be true, you all seem grieved the bug is faster, which is good, thats what i built it for, but he came to the race track where all is fair, and anyway, that was already a highly modded lightweight , ex Porsche uk and all the bells and whistles, and the driver was a name too, but, hey, who cares, only the Porsche driver, he came over to slap hands afterwards, i give him that, so gracious in defeat he was, my car would kill me with noise alone on the street, but thats not the topic. its set up properly now and the brakes are sorted, ill be looking for the turbo MK 1 golf, very fast tho it is, he cant run all the way on full boost, mine goes ever quicker over the race distance, so fun it will be anyway, its never easy .

Hey BBB,
Have you ever posted a run-down of your setup? I know about the front suspension setup, but not much else.

Hi dorigtt, you know as much as i do
its mostly on here, the rear a arm and shock tower removal work is on here below this post, thats allowing the flat bottom work to progress well, nothing exotic, the bug does not have a rear grip problem, and a proper diffuser is not needed, mine is just to cut drag and help the top speed, plus its a hard working car, and you have to be able to jack the thing and work on it, plus it may well get damaged underneath on kerbing and the like, so minimum hour and cash investment in it with respect to how it works in the real world, shocks are gas spax, only budget spec, they are 12 years old! i run full hard front and rear, i think i could improve on those and i have a move planned in my head, not a priority YET, ive gone back up to 944 t/b's expecting more rear grip and loadings from the flat bottom, and the Porsche 996 rear arb will be moved at some point to a position near the old z bar location, but i fancy running it across the wheel boxes inside the car as its grounding out mounted on the torsion tube, later on for that one tho. I try to keep things simple, the more you have to play with, the less enjoyable racing becomes, and also then you need 4 good mechanos at the track to to set it all up, i delight in beating double wish bone sporty cars and the like, i want the minimum of fancy equipment and im not turning it into a Porsche, the trans will stay VW, tho i will go 5 speed when time permits, probably Berg, i had planned losing the frame horns as i run a yoke to support the motor, but the flat bottom mounts to the horns, so their staying for now, the car weighs only 750 kg and i don't want it getting heavier, but i do need another 40 hp to run at the front, i may HAVE to turbo it up, i recon there's 20 hp still untapped in it with no turbo , so well see how the flat bottom goes next year, i recon it will be 1/2 a second p/l quicker, then i need another 1/2 second to take them all down..
best regards BBB.
