Hi All,
I've got a Ba4, and due to heaterbox failure, I was considering running the fan straight to the BA4 air intakes.
Is there anything wrog with this Idea? Is it a bad Idea?
Thanks
Ned

Ned, actually I have tried that in the past. But...the electric fan in the back alone is not enough airflow to keep the high limit switch from kicking off . An electric fan on each side...or heck..just remove the sheet metal from the exchangers to give you more room...and hook hose from the end of the cooling air manifold at the square ports...yes that would work. However, why not just fix or replace the thing, with another one. Everyone I have pulled out junkers has been in pristeen condition, not that hard to fix, and the parts can be found.

Box, the timer switch or the box with the glow plug, that looks like a mini muffler?

Sorry... Let me define what I'm talking about.
Heater Boxes, the part that goes from the cylindar head to the muffler... some people call them exuast manfolds but since they are intergrle to the cabin heat system in most VWs, they have become commonly known as "Heater Boxes".

That what I figured you were talking about...the heat exchangers. Let me guess...they have little sections of metal rusted out where they contact the header pipes themselves? Leak air? rattle like hell? These are very expensive exchangers if you get them new. New ones do not fit as well. Take small pieces of sheet metal and tack weld around each end tio tighten up around the pipe. It works pretty well if you are careful. Unless they are really bent-up..or the the exhaust manifold itself is leaking...I would not get rid of them. But otherwise, good ones in the junkyards are not too hard to find. Ray
