the three marks on the fan pulley are 5 and 27 degrees btdc, and tdc, right? there are no paint marks that remain on either of my type 4 engines, and I wonder how I can accurately renew them.

Some have 5 degree, some don't. Mine has "0" ,and 27 BTDC. I put a black mark on 180 from the zero. Use a sharp flat edge chisel if you need a deeper mark, but I use testors model enamel with a small brush to fill the notch..then wipe off excess with a quick swipe to leave the notch cleanly filled. Let it dry overnight. Its permanent. Ray
