She bent my 412....

I knew it would happen...an 80+ year old lady rolled into the passenger side of my 412 this weekend...%@#*&% DANG! I'm lucky I guess....didn't put a scratch on the main body, the front fender or the rear quarter panel. I can get a door....anything else would have been an ugly loss. Last time...someone did the same to the drivers door. The cost...since it hadn't been painted yet, and the labor would have been my own...was about 100 in salvage yard parts. The fool insurance company gave me $841 dollars. I told them ...nicely ...that that was way too much (I was feeling guilty...I have the same insurance company and was thinking about my own rates). This poor old lady had the same insurance company as last time. I was thinking of where I could get a door...versus simply having her insurance wack her for 1000 bucks. So I did my good deed for this millenium and let her off the hook and took my poor bent 412 home....Oh well...I have a spare for the drivers side ,but not the passenger side...go figure. Ray

Dan? ...is that you? (local Dan?). I havn't forgotten you. I still have your e-mail. I will make an appoinment to come see the thing for this weekend if you have time. I may have to wait a couple of weeks for my speedy tax return (still scouring my contacts for your carbs...but its looking dim on that)...but if it has enough usable parts...we should be able to work something out. I don't really have room for a whole car...but I am creative. Ray

You are almost too nice, eventhough is was an old lady. I am not sure I could be so nice if somebody wacked my beetle or 412. God forbid.

Yeah...I know. I had the sudden thought that someday I would be old....and out driving my 412...possibly poorly...and on a fixed income...BUT...had it been the quarter panel or the fender...I would have taken her to the cleaners! Kind of...Ray

Oh rats! What a bummer. I hate it when stuff like that happens.

While we are on the subject, my 412 fell off the jackstands while I was working on it...my landlady bumped it when she was backing out of the driveway. (she's 87) It broke the driver's side turn signal lens. Anyone out there have one to sell, trade, etc. I'll kiss your feet, send you posters of wiring diagrams, pay money...
