I have had Porsche 914's for a while and wanted something a little different, so I bought a 412 Wagon and brough it back to Texas. The engine was robbed for a T4 to T1 conversion, I was able to recover all the needed things for the auto tranny. I want to take a 914 2.0 liter with a big bore kit (2.2 Liter) and put it in the 412. Will the torque plate bolt up, better yet will this auto tranny handle a 160 HP engine?
I would also like to add that I discovered that the BMW 320i brake upgrades for 914's bolt right up the 412. Haven't driven it yet byt everything fit and the calipers are definitly larger with more pad space.
Any help appreciated and I love the master cylinder location in the 412's!
Thanks

Need 412 Wagon Help
Dan, Some bits and pieces....The auto box, should handle that much HP. I would have the auto section rebuilt. There is a re-builder in Dallas who does these for niot to much. Just send the auto section as the differntial section unbolts. Definately replace the seals and the pinion bearings...real easy on these. The 320i had good brakes. You will actually find them more than is necessary for the 412. Actually the best upgrade to be done to the brakes is to cross ventilate the rotors. I drilled and chamfered mine last year....major improvement...along with teflon stainless brake-lines...which are cheaper now than basic stock. The CB performance rear disc. brake system will bolt right up with minor clearancing to the stubs and bracket. The master-cyl location is great...but...there are "0" new mastercyls out there. I have devised an underdash bracket...easy to make in about an hour that allows the use of a rabbit or type 3 mastercylinder. The only problem with the underdash cylinder is that in humid areas, it gets water condensation inside the boot. Since this is not in open air...it never dries. This is quick bi-annual death for the outer seal. I have also been able to rebuild the factory master-cylinders by using seals off of correct type 3 cylinders...but there is no piston interchange with anything. You also need a very good hone. Let me know what else you need. Parts are scarce for suspension...but I have a few connections here and there. Ray

Need 412 Wagon Help
Thanks for the info, this car was in really good shape. It was a one owner and taken care of. I guess the straight question is
How do I put the 914 2.0 liter in the auto tranny 412? Do I just unbolt the porsche 215mm flywheel and bolt on the 412 auto equip? Does it need to be machined in any fashion?
** I have all the hangers and mounts from the old engine.
All help appreciated.
