Yes, you just hook it up. Along with all the little hoses that controls your kickdown. BUT check if your rear hanger on the 2,0 fit in the 412! I´m not sure it does.

Yep, its a straight bolt in. Remove the flywheel from the standard trans, you will find a matching face for the end of the crank on the auto flexplate. If memory serves, it is o-ringed just like the flywheel. You will also have to get the 12 point bolts that come from the auto flex plate. Inspect the holes in the flexplate to make sure they have no cracks. Be sure you reset the crank end play before install the gearbox. If not, you may experience a clearance issue with the flex plate bolts. If you find any cracks around the bolt holes on the flex plate, you can mig weld little flat pieces of steel (like washers around the holes for stiffening. Do it on both sides of the hole. No thicker than about .040". Grind them flat, make sure they are all of the same height and don't forget to t install shim washers of corresponding thickness on the transmission bell housing to case bolts to account for that difference. Then get new grade 10.5 bolts and shave off the thickness of the washers you welded underneath , so the bolts don't strike the case. By the way...this is part of what cracks the flex plate bolt holes. When crank end play gets excessive. The bolts rub on the case causing loose bolts, which hit the case and cause stress at the flexplate holes.
The rear hanger from the 412 is unique and should be used. The bushing that goes into the axle carrier must be good, and should have not pressure either up,down or sideways on it. That is adjusted at the rear hanger bar by the slotted pairs of fore and aft bolts at each end, and the single vertical nut on the stud at each end....and side to side movement is accomplished by slotted captive nuts that are on each actual motor mount where it contacts the body on each end of the bar. If you need a new transmission bushing....you won't find one. Use the front engine mount rubber bushing from a '93 fox. Cut the hole in the middle all the way through and slip it on with a little contact cement. It fits great Remember that, that bushing is simply a bump stop...no tension on it. Ray

Help? How do I put a 914 2.0 liter in a 412 auto tranny. Do I just bolt up the automatic
plates to the 2.0 liter or is machining required. The 2.0 liter currently has a 215mm
flywheel. I can't believe after 20 years of VW's I found a new area of cool VW's! I love these type 4's!

Pick up the little red book, How to Rebuild Your Aircooled VW. It's a wealth of knowledge and gives very clear instructions on how to handle that little job.
