Is anyone buying?

Post by Sparkie412 »

Hi All,

Does anyone buy 411/412's at all? People seem to LOVE my car, but still no one I meet seems to want to own one. I see 411/412's for sale in my area, and they seem to be for sale FOREVER! The reason I am particularly interested is that I know of a good 412 wagon for sale in No. Cal, and I want to help my friend find a good home for it before he moves out of the country in March... what are the best avenues to try? I will, of course, post on Type4.org, but is this ShopTalk forum an suitable place to post the stats of the car?

I get offers from unknowing people who want to buy my car all the time. What stops people is that they think its just a VW. They start checking around for the parts...and they walk away because its not dirt simple like just buying all your stuff from west coast metric and rocky mountain motor works and slapping it together. Also, if there is any body damage....its going to be involved getting the parts..or having real body work done. I love these cars. But, Restoring a Hebmueller would be easier...no joke! Just look at the availability of 4-speeds and four speed parts...there is not a single part available...except by accidently finding forgotton NOS...on any continent. I collect parts whenever I can find them...and have room and $ for them. These are slowly getting popular to collect...but as their #'s were limited in the first place....its about 15 years late for the thousands that have been crushed...or are rusted too far gone. They are kind of the last frontier in air cooled restoring and collecting. My first car was a 411 4 door. I remember in 1981, when I could find 6 of these sitting next to each other in any junkyard with nothing but minor dents and a blown engine...not anymore. Ray
