I think the 71 is a 1.7l D-jet FI.
So the same type of bus engine parts should work fine.

I do think you could use an L-Jet FI if you changed everthing on FI or any T4 carb setup.

The gas heater BA4 uses same parts as bus BA6 heater the clam is just different. Exaust should be sane if you don't plan on using ERG.

The Bus still had the 1600 dp carbureted engine in 1971. It used dual carbs on the 1700 introduced in 1972. L-Jetronic was the system first used on the injected Buses in 1975.

woops sory I didn't know a 412 was ever a type 3 engine.
