Ray buddy how about some tips on front end

Post by alsehendo »

I would like to rebuild my 74 412 front end as much as possible bearings, balljoints, tie rod ends, stearing box,and struts. Any tips on what I can use for parts?

Could you send me the pics--I think you once mentioned about using superbeetle struts.

Thanks much.

Ray put something up about rabbit struts. I think I am going to try this first,

He also said he had some diagrams available via e-mail common ray howabout sending to me I'll post them up for you. How do you attach the original cut strut to the bootom of the rabit strut.

You can use audi 4000 strut cartridges (same as golf in some models)...but only the low pressure gas. The high pressure KYB will wreck your ball joints. You will also have to machine a pair of stubs for the top of the strut rod to extend it. I have the plan and measurements, but it will be a few weeks. I have also found a cheaper and simpler soulution to use the same cartridges. More later. Not trying to tease...its an access issue. Ray
