Fiberglass Ghia?!?!?!?

Post by Bonemaro »

Why are the left and right front corners of my Ghia fiberglass? I'm assuming that not factory.

...well, I checked the exterior with a magnet and it's metal. On the inside, it's clearly fiberglass.

Bear in mind that `Ghia bodies are leaded at the seams...lead doesn't attract a magnet either.

This is probably extremely optimistic, but I have heard of folks (and known a few) that drive on gravel roads a lot to `glass under the fenders to prevent damage to the body. (bugs usually, but IIRC Ghia front fenders are single layer)
(These days you use the spray on bullet proof truck bed liner stuff--- that didn't always exist)

It's probably a backing for swiss cheese metal to hold the bondo, just throwing it out as a remote possibility.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
