Hood seal problem

Post by 56rag1914cc »

Hello all,

I am replacing my hood seal on my 56 and the old seal is petrified, hard as a rock. Does anyone have advice on how to safely remove my stone seal without screwing up the car? Thanks!

If it's similar to my 74, removing it in pieces with pliers and a lot of careful razor blade work may be your best bet.

As you remove it, do everything you can to not damage or distort the thin metal lip that holds it in place. You can carefully adjust that, and it'll make installing the new seal much easier. Patience is a virtue, dish soap and a little water are sometimes useful as lubricant for this job. If it needs force (to install, anyway) you may be doing it wrong.
