looking for a dash pad replacement

Post by Murdock »

Anyone know where to get this whole piece for a 74, or does someone have one thats not cracked to all heck like mine? I'm afraid that the slip-over dash pad thing on ebay for 65 bucks wouldn't fit the contours too well of a dash that is as cracked as mine.. Thnk you all for your help.

I was mostly pleased with my replacement dashpad from Bugpack, it will take a little tweaking and fiddling with but it was pretty nice for a repro

looking for a dash pad replacement

Post by GhiaMonster »

Got a question regarding the top dash pad. My car didn't have it (didn't have much of any interior!). Does the pad wrap around the front of the dash (the lip at the top over the gauges)? I ask because I was thinking of just sealing the slots on the lip and painting the top and padding and upholstering the dash face, but upon further thought, I'd go for the top pad if it does wrap around the lip.
Hope this makes sense!

Thanks,
Mike

yes it does wrap around the lip, I ran into another small problem in that i removed the screws at the far left and right of the dash, and then the 4 screws holding in the front vents, but I can't wiggle the pad off. Can anyone tell me how to get the pad off, I'm guessing there are some clips that have to be moved a certain way?

edit:Ghiamonster-- here's a link to some pictures of how the dash looks like with only the dash face on, it looks alot better with the pad, since it covers the trim of the face IMHO http://members3.clubphoto.com/vince2430 ... uest.phtml

Murdock,
Thanks! Just what I needed to see. Now all I need is a pad without the speaker grill. I had planned to recover a new pad unless they make one that way.
As far as covering up the dash face trim on top, I don't have that problem. I made a custom dash out of sheet metal that wraps under the dash about 6 inches, padded and covered it with fabric, filled and painted the top. Not too happy with how the top came out, so now I'm looking for the pad.

My car didn't have a pad installed, so can't help with the attachment points, sorry.

Thanks again!

Murdock, just looked closer at the pictures you pointed me to, and it LOOKS like there may be more bolts/nuts/something holding the top on. There are holes (4 around speaker, 2 or 4 more on each side?) that look like attach points. Look from inside the trunk and see if you see any nylon bolts/nuts.
