New to the forum with a Porsche 914 2.0

Post by ColinGreene »

Hey everyone,

my name is Colin.
Just bought a new to me 76 914.
the motor sat out of the car in the previous owners driveway for 10 plus years
My dad and I tore it down the other day and found at least a quart of water in the case.
The rods have some rust on them and the lifters show signs of going away.
Also its pretty obvious the motor has been rebuilt poorly once.
Ill be looking for some good info on how to rebuild this motor for a reliable potent motor for a bit of extra pop.
I was looking to put a 78mm crank in it and potentially 96mm pistons.
Ill need help with picking rods and if i want to put bigger pistons in it.
This is not my Dads first engine build, he worked for a volkswagen machine shop in college and has built more than a few Type 1 motors
but the type 4 is new to us. I usually do bmw Mini coopers.
looking forward to getting to know all of you and learning something new!

Heres a few pictures of the car and a few of my motor parts.

Welcome to the asylum!

We need more 914 folk, the T4 engine itself is well covered bt the type4um.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
