My Turn

Engine Fire!! Having been lurking here for some years, I've returned to posting as a reminder to all. CHECK your fuel lines in the engine bay. And keep a fire extinguisher within quick reach (next to the drivers seat track.)
As I was driving in my neighborhood, stopped at a light, I began to smell fuel. I was less than a minutes drive from my destination as the light turned green, car stalled. Wouldnt restart but a quick check out the rearview told me everything I needed to know. Flames out the louvers!!! Grabbed the extinguisher ( which was 10 years old) and hit it once. Fire went right out but..damage is to be assesed. Things I did right before this happened:
1. Relocated the fuel filter to the wheel well
2. Safety wired the fuel line to the carb
3. Kept a fire extinguisher (Class B,C) in the car.

Things I did wrong:
1. Hadn't checked the fuel lines or the engine bay in a long while (8 months or so)
2. Assumed the new braided fuel lines would last like the original did.

Seems the fuel line at the fuel pump inlet was cracked as it was soaked hours after i got it home. I hope this helps somone else to avoid this TOO common an event.

Hi Kpghia,

Be aware some scoundrel, with no respect for your intelligence or feelings, has hacked into your account, causing it to display a Wallace & Grommet or similiar avatar.

Might be the same guy who cut your fuel lines, so be sharp.
