These mirrors mount using bolts from inside the door that screw into the base. On my 72 Ghia there is a channel inside the door that blocks access to the outer door skin from inside the door. It looks like I will have to use a hole saw to install them. I went so far as to pull the door seals and glass out of the door to see if I could find a way to install them. Kind of a hassle for a mirror.
I've seen these on other cars so people have figured something out. What am I missing?
At least I now have an intimate relationship with the inside of my door and I didn't spend $385 each for Talbot's.
My mirror hole was welded up and like you said it is a pain to try to get your hand, wrench or what ever in there without completely disassembling the door. But the double/backing steel was still there, so I drilled and tapped into it for the machine screws and it has been holding very well
I have the bullet mirrors on our '70 Ghia. I am (re: Talbots) a compromising purist.
I had a flat black bullet mirror back in the 70's -- never seen one since.
I'm trying to find a way to use the Spyder mirror but cannot justify the cost.

Thanks! Hole saw it is. I'll drill from the outside to get the position correct then use the hole saw from the inside to leave the correct sized holes in the door skin.
I'm a compromising purist too. IMO the "right" look for a built in the 1970's street Ghia are the Stock Mirrors, Talbot (or Talbot Like), and Vitaloni Turbos:
I have the Vitalonis now and don't love them. I love the Talbots but not at $385 each so when you posted about the CIP's I was really jazzed. My car buddy (owns a Tiger) found some GT Bullet style mirrors that screw from the outside, but that messes up the clean look of a Talbot
