This past weekend the historic tour raced at the Kyalami grand prix circuit. There was over 200 entries for the day with 64 cars entered into the Historic saloons Class A-G. We qualified in 19th overall and 5th in class. HP counts against us at Kyalami... I had a good start, but not much other action during the race.
Our day was cut short by a broken ring on nr2 piston. . Now we can up the compression and change the cam which was hindering us from the start of the season.
What looked to me like a red Alfa just in front of you --- is he a four or six cylinder?
Did you break one of the WiseCo rings (slipper skirt)? And what cam are you going to install?
We have both of our 94mm x 78.8mm stroke engine in rebuild right now. SCAT C-95 in one, Bugpack 4063-10 in the other. A big difference in how we build for 14-hour endurance races is we under-carb. We have dual single bbl 44mm throttle body Solexes (Kadrons) on 34mm venturis. These actually score in just under a 44mm Weber system but have almost no dirt sensitivity. Every lap on track is valuable, and the Solexes deliver.

The current engine is 1914cc type 1 making around 80kw on the wheels. The HP does count against us as most of the other cars in my class does produce more power... the beetle just handles so much better
We have two cars, both kind of identical but for some reason the #170 car just handles better. I'm a lot more confident in the #170 car, especially through the fast sweeping corners. Turn in also seems to be better.
The setup is pretty simple as it is swing axle, there is not much you can do.
Front suspension:
Link pin
Dual adjusters welded in
Suspension arms bent blacksmith style to get 2,5' camber
Dual caster shims
KYB gr2 shocks
19mm sway bar
Shock towers have been extended to connect to the roll cage
20 minutes toe out works for most of the tracks
Rear suspension:
Swing axle
25mm torsion bars
19mm Z bar with heim joints that connect onto the axles
KYB GR2 shocks
1' camber static
Straight toe on tracks with long sweeps and 10 minutes toe in for tight tracks
Solid spool differential (Yes solid, long story but short we did not have money for a LSD... tried the solid spool and it works so good that we have never tried anything else)
