Re: what do you think for irs setup
Hi Itawolf,
Yes, the Atomwerks equipment looks good. Disclaimer -- I have not had any of their products in hand.
We use adjustable spring plates on our race cars, just the garden variety. We have one swing axle car and one IRS car with single spring plate.
http://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewtopic ... 1&t=137122
The downside of the spring plates we have is the ride heighth adjusting screw. Race cars get driven hard, but nothing is as rough as thousands of ass-bumping street miles. The adjusting screw tips can get pounded out of shape. But, the big advantage of adjustable (for racing) is getting the ride height level exactly as you want it, and changing the handling of the car.
Lowering the rear increases understeer, swing axle or IRS.
Hope this helps,
FJC

Have a look at the supplied bolts, the basic kit has high tensile bolts while the more expensive kits have stainless steel bolts, they are not high tensile, stainless steel bolts are unsuitable for the application.

As is with steel, brass, AL (yeas, there are AL fasteners) and other materials there are different grades and designs of SS. If you are concerned ask for and look up the grades of the fasteners.

http://www.allvoices.com/contributed-ne ... -fasteners
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stainless_steel ("150 grades of SS fasteners")
Granted, what you get in the average box store when dealing with SS is just below the grade 5 steel fastener. SS is also higher in price proportionally too.

Have product on order from Atomwerk. Lead time for my particular product is well beyond delivery times originally communicated. Quality is supposed to be very good & it's the only one like it, so I hope it turns out to be the case. I will try to post pictures when I finally receive the product.
Edited content: My apologies to everyone for not sticking to the topic.

That is their justification for the ridiculous B/O times and it seems they don't think that is a problem. I've been very patient and pleasant every one of the 10 or 12 times I have called over the last 7 months to check the status of my order that was paid just over $1000 in advance and supposed to take 4-8 weeks. Starting to feel like a scam, they have my money but don't seem to care to deliver their product.
I have not seen the product in person so I can't speak to the quality or function. It looks good in the pictures and the idea seems spot on and the craftsmanship appears to be very good. Oh yeah... and someone there will be glad to tell you over and over and over that the quality is so awesome it's worth any wait, and you should feel good that its only been 7 months because they just delivered a set to someone that has been waiting 2 years....but they always deliver... so be grateful you ordered from them!
Just sayin'
^^^^ got no time to wait that long im getting old LOL
i hate to wait crazy long esp on a hobby

Not sure what your ultimate goal is or your budget but Mendeola has some serious suspension components. I ordered a Kafer Bar from them and the service was good and the product was of very good quality and a reasonable price. http://www.mendeolasuspension.com/truet ... nsion.html It's worth look.

Re: what do you think for irs setup
Dale, did I hear right and the arm is 1/4" thick (the video wasn't working correctly)? If so that is not a spring plate anymore but more of a pivot arm. The two arcs of the rear suspension are still in action; the 2-joint/swing axle's arc originating at the transaxle and the torsion arm's arc originating at the torsion housing so where are the loads the spring plate used to accommodate going to go with that thick/stiff arm now in place?
I tried to watch the video but it wasn't working well (I think on the video the guy said that the one bar he was replacing on the car they were using had had their produce for a while and it had got bent) and I didn't read the whole TOS string as (as usual) it got stressed/nasty at times.
I've seen their ads in some of the books but this is the first time I have seen or heard anything about them.

I am not going to comment any of the sanity-insanity of product........ I backed out a long time ago and no longer have interest in discussion as there is so much misinformation in message thread from both sides.... My only thought is the geometry of swing axle does not change (camber) any unless you actually remount transaxle to higher location of lowered car....

As I looked at the plates, I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing. That's precisely why all the drag racers raise the trans up in the car.Dale M. wrote:My only thought is the geometry of swing axle does not change (camber) any unless you actually remount transaxle to higher location of lowered car....

P.s. you might also like to look at what Formula Vee people do with pivot points...

Re: what do you think for irs setup
I have a set of 3" raised stage 1 and the quality is good. Really like the fact you insert the torsion bar thru the plate. Make indexing a breeze, just set the angle you want the plate, roll the bar around until it lines up and tap it in. It did take about 3-5 months to get them though. And getting fox shocks the correct length was another pain but thats another story. If you have the time to wait, I would say do it.
