I had some time in the garage over the weekend and installed the mounts needed for a 944 rear anti roll bar. The pan is IRS and currently bare / upside down.
The 944 bar attaches to the spring plates using a drop link and has two bushed mounts under the torsion tube. The stock location on a 944 doesn't work with a bug as the chassis forks are in the way. So the sway bar must sit lower to pass under the forks and also not hit the gearbox mount. The bar should also sit slightly behind the tube to avoid having the drop links at an angle.
Kerscher do a kit with bolt on mounts, new bar, bushes and hardware. It isn't bad value for money, in Europe. I chose to use the oem 944 bits.
To keep it relatively simple, as my fab skills are limited, I used 65mm u-bolt clamps as the base (m10 exhaust clips). I bolted them in place and did all the measuring side to side and matching the angle. Once in place I welded the clamp to the torsion tube and removed the bolts.

Re: 944 rear sway bar install
Next up I welded a flat plate of 4mm steel to give a bigger platform for the next step. I drilled the steel in 3 places and plug welded it on.

Re: 944 rear sway bar install
Finally, I welded on oem 944 chassis mounts for the rear bar. These are still available from Porsche. They are also made from very thick steel and strong!

I did the standard quality control test. I battered it with a hammer and it rang like a bell but didn't budge. As a final check I bolted up the bar with polybushes and new genuine caps (available from VW classic for a few £ as they are used on a 1303, NLA from Porsche).

Re: 944 rear sway bar install
Clearly, it's not much use off road or with very low suspension
Anyway, I get a lot of info from this forum so thought someone might be interested.
Cheers.

Ah, thanks. The links should work I guess.
This is the Kercher brackets (140 euro) that do the same job.

Yes Dale, They are the lowest point on my beetle circuit car and I have to make new bushing clamps for the LH one regularly, i see them putting on a spark show on 911's also.
