Need some advice on my -64 build.

Hello, my name is Danny and I'm from Norway

Trying my luck here wit a few questions. I'm currently rebuilding my -64. Hvae the body of, in fact I'm replacing it with a better one.

This is not going to be a show care, but more a daily driver.
I've replacing the floor pans with repro. What do you suggest I'll paint it with? I've been thinking of eithet epoxy primer and 2 part heavy duty truck paint, or the ol' way, eith Owatrol oil and 1 part paint for metal. Not sure if you have Ovatrol rust oil, but it is a drying linseed oil..

I've also bern thinking of dropping the car a wee bit, mind you, not pan scraping, but maybe 1-2". I have drop spindles, but don't think I'll use them due to the widening stance and are not to keen of a narrow beam.
I've thought about welding in sway away adjusters instead.

What are your thoughts?

I too am new here but I will offer that a lot of guys are using a coating called POR-15 on their pans to prevent (and possibly stop ongoing) rust.
The adjusters are a very common way that off road guys get some lift. However I have heard that alot of them simply cut the beam and rotate the sections about 3/16". The reason most shy away from the adjusters is off road use seems to be tough on the metal structure in adjusters. For street use this seems like this would be no issue. '64 is a great year hope to see some pictures!

There is a local shop that sell POR15, but I've decided to go for epoxy primer/top coat. My brother in law have a 30 year old sailing boat treated with Hempel epoxy. It stays in the salty water year round, only to be taken in dock every second year for a week to clean the underwater hull. Still it looks like new, no rust what so ever. So I think its the best thing to do.

About the adjusters, I don't know yet...

Bodywork and paint are not my strong suit so I will be interested to here what solution you decide on and, how it works out. I suspect that being submerged in water would greatly reduce some forms of oxidation helping to keep your families vessel in good condition.
Can't wait to see sone pictures.

I have installed numerous Sway-a-way style adjusters over the year and haven't had a problem with any of them.

Don't think the salty enviroment does any good at all. I mean there is no rust over or under water at all. So I'm going to gibe epoxy a go. I've heard some concernes about using it on thin sheet steel due to flexing, but i do think epoxy is a bit plieable and won't crack....

I've bought a 1500 gearbox with axle and all. This has 4 bolt pattern. I think I can use everything from the backing plate with the brake components and my drums to make it wide 5. But I've heard I need some sort if a spacer... Anyone?

I'm in the beginning of my build, thinking of makingi it Mach1 style.

Anybody know the ET on the rims? Also, how will it work on a slightly lowered car, in the front, will it rub the inner fenders?

Hi Danny,

You're not likely to get a fast or conclusive answer on how a wheel might fit because of the variables of tire sizes and wheel offsets.

For instance, you can get a wheel with a very low profile tire that clears the fenders on bumps but the width of the tire rubs the body on full lock.

Best to find a car using the wheel and tire you like and ask the owner.

Thanks FJCamper. I've 4 6 1/2" rims on hands for cheap, think I just grab'em and see how they fit. From the pix, they look like they are building mostly out, so hopefully they'll work if I don't lower the car to much. I'm thinking one notch in the back, and leveling the car in the front..
