Supercharger?

Post by evernon »

I acquired this beauty from a guy who had planned on installing it on a VW but had to sell his project due to poor health. I completed the rest of the project but opted not to venture into the realm of forced induction due to lack of knowledge. The previous owner had the shaft shortened & nosecone machined so that it will somehow fit on an air cooled VW. I believe that the inner mechanism was just serviced & there appears to be two new sets of bearings for the new shaft + seals, some oil that must be related, I also have some intake parts that were part of the original vehicle that the unit was taken from. Anyway, if anyone is interested, make me an offer.

I believe he said it was an Eaton. The markings are EAB-85207 by the gears and 32673 89F by the intake. There is also a circular stamp with a 6 in the center near the gears.

I have very little knowledge about the value. The previous owner spent $260 in machine work to have the shaft & nose cone shortened. Rebuild kits appear to be around $70. Probably several hours of buffing to get that finish! The intake piping is stamped ford 3.8. Used units look to be selling in the $200 range on ebay.

I am in need of cash so any offer would be considered.

More Photos - I am not sure which end sucks and which end blows. The included manifolds attach to each opening though and from the photos I have seen, the square opening faces upward. Not sure if it operates in other orientations. I don't think shipping would be that bad. I would guess $20 - 30

It's an Eaton M45 from a Mini Cooper, the oval side is intake square pattern on the bottom is discharge.

Sure looks like Ford T-Bird Super Coupe intake plumbing to me. That would make it a M90.

I like it,

Nice piece of kit!

Would be kidda hard to fit on a normal type 1 fan shroud.. due to its lenght and intake position.

I'm thinking m90 as well. Is it to big for a acvw is the next question.

I'll start the bidding at $150, which is the lowest price I saw for one on Ebay. I was kind of joking about putting a blower on my EJ20 when it (eventually) gets installed but ...

If the boost is a function of the rpm of the unit, couldn't you design the desired boost with pulley selection? I guess you would need to know what volume of air it moves at speed though to figure this out. The intake is from a Ford & looks identical to photos I have seen of the supercoupe.

Seems like it would be around a foot long with the nosecone and pulley, not even counting whatever intake was on the backside. I'm not sure how you'd fit it in on a Type 1 engine, unless it was race-only with no fan shroud. Even an M45 would be seriously crammed in.

Maybe on top of a engine from a square or fastback. What is that, a type 3 engine?
