Got my engine back together and all is good except for these gaskets/seals? I didn't have either of these when the crank came out of the engine. However the rebuild seal kit I ordered came with these? Its a stock 1600cc DP.
In mid`66 the method of sealing the flywheel to the end of the crank was changed from a gasket (one or the other, not both) to an O-ring in a groove machined into the flywheel. The "snout" of the crank was machined back a little further to give the O-ring a surface to seal against, and the I.D. of the endplay shims was reduced by 1mm.
So, assuming you have the O-ring style crank & flywheel, there's no need for either of those gaskets - but you do need the O-ring in the 'wheel, and hopefully the endplay shims you used were all the late style. If you use the early shims on a late crank, they sling around like hula-hoops and slice a groove right through the snout until they reach the harder dowel pins.
