I have a 1976 Type I (AJ code) 1600 dual port, and was wondering about carburator options. All the replacement charts seem to end at 1974. It has a 31Pict on it now, but it doesn't seem to perform very well. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Is that thing in a '76 beetle, or a bus?

You may want to check the type 1 forum.

Check with John at www.aircooled.net, send him an email or call with your question, I think that the 40 dlra is going to be a bit big if the engine is stock. You want the venturies and jets set up properly for your application, etc ... Make sure your vendor knows your application and can make recommendations.

Look at a better flowing header too, if you don't already have one.

Thanks Derek.

The engine is from a 76 Beetle, but is currently in my '66 Bus.

The kit was suggested by aircooled.net for that engine, but it wouldn't break my heart if I had to build the engine up to fit the carbs, hehe. I ordered it today, so I'll let you know how it goes.
