Are distributors specific for the carb that you are running? Is there one better than the other? I have a 73 1600 with a PICT34 and am having running issues. Started with the basics vacuum, timing, carb settings and such. Just trying understnd this VW thing.
Thanks Rick

Re: Differences in distributors
You need to match your distributor to the carb and use the right bottom pulley.
Look at the mounting flange of the carb near where the cable connects. See the small numbers stamped into the casting? Read those and post them here. This will tell you if you have the right carb for a 73.

Re: Differences in distributors
The carb has numbers stamped B3 149 and VW 410-1
Distributor has JFU 0231170034 and 043905205
I'm not looking for originality just want the thing to do more than idle. Idles relatively well but will not rev up.
Thanks Rick
