1911 spark plug

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

1911 spark plug

Post by texdesertbug »

Running a T4 1911 with 8.6-1 CR in a desert buggy competing with TDRA. 250-350 mile race, 4 times a year. Currently running NGK bpr6es.

Is that the proper plug and of course, if not, then which. What upgrades are available?

Strange nobody has answered this. The Type4um has more people talking about type 4 engines and can offer info also.
To the question, my short answer is those plugs are excellent choices, and there are no real upgrades to be had that would make more power or increase the sexy on that baja. Now if you want to, on the next tune-up when its time to replace plugs, you can try non-resistor type. Resistor plugs are for supressing static from radios and problems in computer engine controls with a slight resistance in the electrical zap flowing thru it. Again, no more noticeable power to be had, they are needed in modern engines but not our classic aircooleds. The part number is the same without the R.
So you think your project is taking forever eh? Well you've got nothing on me.....

Most offroad racers use 2-way radio and intercom for communications inside the car and to pits and others. So I would highly recommend sticking with resistor plugs to keep the static under control. And that is true regardless which engine is used.
