That's when brake pads glaze up.

Honestly, that is the easiest time to glaze pads. Once the system is broken in its damn near impossible in my experiencecraigvwdude wrote: ↑Sun Nov 25, 2018 5:25 amThey were brand new.Bruce2 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 25, 2018 2:53 amYour brake pads are glazed. They need to be replaced.craigvwdude wrote: ↑Sat Nov 24, 2018 6:46 pm . My last beetle had a "hard" pedal feel. No matter what I did to that car, It just wouldn't stop with a darn.

Re: Better brakes?
Sorry about the double post, but I figured this didnt need it own thread. What is actualy even out there for bigger/better break kits on BJ bugs? I know you can go 944 (with a new front hub) or ghia breaks, but what else is out there?

Now you're opening a can of worm. I only know Supers which can be both easier and more difficult to upgrade.eskamobob1 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2019 2:34 pm Sorry about the double post, but I figured this didnt need it own thread. Re: Better brakes?
I was quite impressed with the disc brakes on my 73(the car I took to the autocross), but my other car has 944 front rotors, turned down by an inch with widened 914 calipers. The rear is 944 brakes.
Recap: 73 Super with 40mmF/33mmR piston calipers on solid rotors; 74 Super with 42mmF/36mmR piston calipers with vented rotors.
Point is, the typical disc brake conversion kits are pretty damn good.

but... but... what if I am tranplanting a full 951 powertrain into my bug and I now need to stop from 200 mph?H2OSB wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2019 3:31 pm I was quite impressed with the disc brakes on my 73(the car I took to the autocross), but my other car has 944 front rotors, turned down by an inch with widened 914 calipers. But seriously, I have 0 plans of upgrading past 4 corner standard disks (and I would only do rears so I dont have to adjust boots) in the forseable future. Im more of just currious whats out there

E-Bob, just what are you doing with the car or want to do with the car as it can make a difference in suggestions given. Also price and the amount of work that would need to be done ($$$) can affect ideas.
With all the changes and ideas going on now days if you are road racing vs. auto crossing, vs. drifting, vs. street driving at low or high speeds can induce different results of your inquiry. The same with the master cylinder being single or needing to change to double chamber then would you need residual pressure valves or not to do the balancing of the car's braking.

Lol. Its purely a road car I like to trash on from time to time and wont have >125hp anywhere in the foreseeable future (since foot on the floor is more fun than part throttle, I choose to limit engine over my foot). I am purely just curious about what is out there if you did get specialized with the build.Ol'fogasaurus wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2019 4:48 pm E-Bob, just what are you doing with the car or want to do with the car as it can make a difference in suggestions given.
