Hello all, I've been away a long time but am back and have an issue with my 71 Super. I have only drove it 10 to 20 miles a summer for the last 25 years with having no issues but two years ago it decided to start sputtering as I accelerated, it idles great. I put it away and have decided to try and fix it this year but so far I think it comes down to a carb issue. I have replaced the plugs, wires, points and coil and fresh non-ethanol gas. Dwell and timing are set but I still suffer the sputter.
Am I wrong in thinking it's the carbs now? Or because I have not tinkered with this thing in so long am I missing something?
Thanks.

It could be the carbs, or tight valves if you haven't adjusted them in a while.

Just realized this was from June last year...
I would pull the carbs and do a thorough cleaning and rebuild. If it idles fine then stumbles when accelerating, it may the main jet, accel pump jet or some part of the progressive enrichment system is clogged. If you infrequently drive the vehicle, it may be the gas gummed up the carbs. Either way, clean the carbs, install new gaskets and check the float level. Good luck.

How long has the fuel been in the tank if you do only a few miles each year?
