It is basically a pump that has been measured(and of course is to spec) for instance you can measure the gap you have between your pump cover and gears, the pump body where it slides into the case on 3 different spots, measure the case where the pump goes. If your case is bigger than your pump it will suck air, if your oil pump to cover is too loose it wont build the pressure. Same goes for your oil relief valves if they are stuck open it wont build the proper pressure. 10/30 would be better than 20/50 in my opinion. I've been running delo 15/40 for a while and have had good luck with it so far. It sounds to me like your oil pump is the culprit. It's also a good idea to check on how much your oil pump is engaged in your cam if it was barely catching from the get go then started pumping that thick oil it could twist the end of the oil pump drive right off

So if I was to change to 10w30 now would it likely make the oil pressure drop even more until the problem is solved?

Not necessarily, I would assume the pump to cover clearance is too large or the pump to case clearance is too big and its sucking air. It's hard to tell until its torn apart but if the oil pressure problems started happening after you changed your pump I would say that is the problem. Did you ever have over heating issues before? If not then you could always get a different oil pump cover for full flow, tap the outlet of the pump and plug it, and run the outlet of the full flow to the p/r port and see what happens

No there was never any problems before. When it was n/a and I drove at 70mph steady for a while the light would come on at idle for a little while but that's it.

Should it run ok without any of the external cooler and filter. I still have the schadek 30mm normal pump and cover that came with the engine. Could I put that in and check it that way?

Do you have the cooler coming off where the original oil cooler was? It would definitely be better than the problems your having now.

The standard oil cooler is still there. I've ran the external one off a sandwich plate on the oil filter

That's what the oil pump looked like when I took it off this weekend. I replace the gasket between the cover and pump and put a small amount of hylomar on the gasket

Very interesting situation you have. Does the oil pump easily slide in and out of your case?

How easy is easy? I was considering pulling it out yesterday but as the engine is in situ and I don't have a pump pulley, after the feeble attempt of trying to wiggle and pull it free with my bare hands I decided to just change the gasket on the cover and hope that stopped the leak.

I'd say the pump is nice and snug. If it just fell into place I would say that could be your problem. You could always pull the oil pump drive gear and inspect the end that goes out into the cam and make sure it's in good order. It wouldn't hurt to measure the cam gear to cover clearance and see how that is looking

Did you find the problem?

Have you attached the extended pick up tube for the deep sump, and is it sitting correct?

Is it a roller bearing turbo without the restrictor in place?

Is there a block of in the oil pump for using it as a full flow pump, one that you'd have to remove?

Sounds to me like it's one of those things. Maybe try and remove the turbo and block of the oil line

Thinner oil would only make the problem worse.

Are you running enough oil? You mentioned it comes on when you accelerate hard...
