This is something I haven't seen before but the areas added allow him to remove the engine without removing the carbs.
Updated to a 3 rib bus trans but the stub through the brakes have not been updated so the drop when the air (gas ?) shocks pushed down and caused the stock bug to break. The chain is a temp fix until he can get new stubs.
This in one of the new shifter boxes. He is not real happy with it as the distance between gears is too close together.
Jamar brake and clutch conversion. The plumbing is very well done keeping it from being damaged quite as easy as some of the ones I see.
I'll post two other rails I have seen this week later on today.

Re: Pictures of updated old sand rail
Again, this is a conversion from an older style suspension. The conversion on this was done by a guy in the Portland OR area. The work on this is pretty cool and there is a lot to see I think.
There is a lot of structural tubing and intercostals tying thing together here. Also notice the way the top of the shocks are mounted... in a very structural manner.
The mounting of the limit straps and the design of the trailing arms.
The pedal assembly is now a hanging pedal assy. The seats are not on the floor but up a bit making the hanging pedal assy a bit more comfortable to use.
Front A-arm suspension now.
Another pix of the trailing arm design.

Re: Pictures of updated old sand rail
This is the third and I think the oldest of the three rails.
A different style of rear A-arm and shock mount.
A closer look at the lower shock mount.
The breather box and other goodies.
Rear trailing arm mount.
A hanging pedal assembly mount.
Electric power steering.
The battery is up front with the shutoff switch in-line up front.
Electric power steering.
The turning brakes cylinder is to the rear of the seat. Not sure if it is a pull up or push down style.
The last of the pictures.

Re: Pictures of updated older sand rails
A guy near Portland OR named Dave Brown did a lot of this work. I had a lot of time yesterday to talk to and spend some time looking specifically at one of the rails with the guys who owns it. The more I looked the more impressed I was with detailing and with the stiffening and protecting some of his design and metal working work.

That is a cool looking buggy, thanks for the pics. Do you have any that show the entire buggy?

Which one. Several have now gone home as their time on the sand was over. A lot of broken stuff so they must have enjoyed themselves

We just got back home: left at 8:20 am and got home just before 8:00 pm. A lot of traffic and one stop to see my wife's sister-in-law in hospice.Leatherneck wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2019 6:22 pmYou know me, not picky. There was a buggy that I saw but didn't have a camera with me. I'll get pix next time I see them... maybe in a mouth. Same with the other rails.
