Hello All,
Its been a long time since I have been active here. I miss all the good conversation and banter.
I recently purchased a set of (assumed) EMPI 3x3 rear arms. Previously I had installed and have been using, with out any issue, stub axles to use larger Type 2/4 CV joints, on stock arms.
I have swapped all the bearings and spacers from the old to the new, and now have clearance issues with the back of the bearing housing, hitting the back of the axle stub CV flange. From my point of view, the bearing is too far in the housing, letting the axle to push into the back-side too far.
Has anybody heard of a similar issue?

Did you measure the old and new parts to see if any difference? BTW, good to have you back. Don’t be a stranger this time.

Re: 3x3 & Type 2/4 Stub Axle Issues
Was hoping to not take the entire bearing assembly apart to deal with this. Was hoping that somebody had a similar issue, and could give me a simple suggestion to remedy the problem.
I was never a stranger before. Life got in the way, and there wasn't much activity over the past few years.

This is the stack up for the three spacers in the rear. Installing them wrong is often a problem like you described.

Re: 3x3 & Type 2/4 Stub Axle Issues
Update: I swapped the stub axle with a stock unit that I have. No Issue. So apparently the shape of the stub axle was just convex enough to cause interference. I ground the back side of the flange just enough to provide clearance.
Problem solved, even though nobody has ever seen this issue in previously.

Something I don't remember have had heard of before. I have heard of guys having to slightly shorten the half-shaft before (don't remember a reason given though) and others not having any problems with the swap. Could be a couple of things causing the incident such as tolerance problems with the arms and maybe the stub shafts adding up together.CBDZ wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2019 2:07 pm Update: I swapped the stub axle with a stock unit that I have. Glad you got it solved so easily.
