Hey All!

It’s been a long while since I’ve posted on here, but I’m finally on the road to getting my bug back on the road.

My old CB Performance Wastegate has to be retired to the parts bin, so I’m looking to replace it with the Turbosmart Gate38.

I’m running the CB hideaway turbo manifold and wonder whether the Turbosmart WG will bolt straight onto the existing flange? Anyone know?
Is Marty Staggs still on here? I know he was heavily involved with Turbosmart.....

I dont think you will have any issues with fitting the Turbosmart Gate38 to the CB header mount. I purchased a fellow STF member's CB header/wastegate and he had relocated the wastegate to the collector. The Turbosmart wastegate fits just fine and, from the looks of his post, he was still using the factory wastegate mount. You can see his documentation here:

Scroll towards the bottom and you will see the cut wastegate mount with the Gate38 mounted to it.

Thanks slowsixtyduece, it looks like he has used the original flange..... I like the new location being proposed too!.... think I may have to get mine relocated there too. I didn’t suffer from too much boost creep because I run my turbo to its upper limits anyway, but running off of one primary certainly isn’t ideal.

I see there is a Gen - V version of the Ultragate 38 which has provision for liquid cooling.....
What advantage does this have over the previous, non liquid cooled versions?

That's funny, bunch of scavengers here. I bought his wastegate! Finally hoping to use it in the next week or two. I just bought a standard 38mm wastegate flange for it. It's the same as my tial as well.

So, I had an interesting conversation today with an exhaust fabricator..... He was happy to relocate the wastegate to the collector but questioned why, because he said that the exhaust system is pressurised to a certain extent anyway, so didn’t necessarily mean that it would only bleed gasses from the primary it was currently located on. He felt that gasses from within the entire header would naturally find the path of least resistance.... even if it meant travelling back up one of the primaries.

I can kind of see his point.... Especially if you just simplify things and imagine the CB Header to be a slightly more extravagant log manifold.

What’s your thoughts people?

The theory is correct in a static system but in a flowing system and flowing hard.... fluid dynamics doesn’t really work like that or rather.... doesn’t work efficiently like that, hence boost creep can be an issue?

But then Again a lot of people run that header....

So, just to confirm for anyone else which may have this query in future - The Ultragate 38 flange isn't a direct fit onto the existing CB hideaway manifold flange. The Turbosmart waste gate flange is slightly narrower and the bolt spacing is 71mm, whereas the CB waste gate flange is wider and has a shorter bolt spacing of 60mm.

I also had the waste gate take-off re-located to the collector pipe..... I have photos, but Photobucket seems to have deleted my account and now want me to pay for a new one to be set up.

Can anyone recommend a FREE image hosting site that is compatible with this forum?
I have an iCloud account. Would that work?

The Tial, Deltagate, Evolution, Turbosmart and I’m sure a few others are the same flange. Not sure what style flange is on the CB header.
Kinda weird though since Marty is selling Turbosmart gates to CB.

My TS wastegate was a direct bolt on replacing the Deltagate.
I do like the TS boost T controller too.

I also pulled off my turbo housings, to finally reveal what caused it to “seize”. Something had gone through and got stuck in my turbine......

On closer inspection of my old CB Performance wastegate, it was evident that it had heavily corroded and parts of the valve seat were missing:

I’ve bought a brand new chra and will be fitting the housings onto it soon....
But first, I wanted to have a little play with them whilst they were off.
I don’t know that it works in practice, but the theory works for me..... plus I read it on the internet and saw YouTube videos, so it’s gotta be true right? 😂
Porting and polishing turbo housings will apparently give earlier spool and more stable boost pressures throughout the rpm range because of the less obstructive and smooth flowing airways, so I thought I’d give it a go....... and if it has an adverse effect, I have a spare set of standard housings I can put back on.

Turbine housing has been gasket matched, casting marks and excess material removed, smoothed and polished out any steps or obstruction to airflow. But made extra sure not to mess with the orifice that the turbine wheel sits in because that needs to be as tight to the blades as possible:

Also did the same with the compressor housing. Although, I’ve just seen someone report very good results from completely blending out the intake to a sharp edge instead of the standard flat edge..... so I think I’ll probably tweak this further:
