Yes I need to add a fifth bead on there to cover that edge up. I’m confident in its holding ability as is though.

Okay, the 4th bead looks cold at the jack plate.

I certified aerospace welders as part of my job. Gotta speak up when I see something that looks off. Any time the weld bead edge is 90 degrees to the parent material, there is a lack of penetration. Another tip is to make sure both pieces you are joining are ground to shiny metal prior to welding, and as clean as possible. Not that you didn't, just another tip. I see a bunch of welds online that people think they can burn through contamination. You can never make the metal too clean to weld!

Skid, do you also certify to weld upside down (on your back or bent over backwardsSkidmark wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2019 10:37 pm I certified aerospace welders as part of my job. One of the guys I knew at the time, a good welder, could only pass one of the methods and positions of welding (I don't think hanging by your feet was one of them but it was close to a couple of them) and only one of the materials that would need to be welded. Welding is an art form per se on many levels and that is for sure.

Lee, those are some of the hardest positions to weld without a doubt. Luckily, our government contracts did not require welding inverted or vertical. We did welding on Patriot missile parts, and other parts for Raytheon. We also did a temporary exhaust cone and heat shield for the Northrop Grumman X-47B, the unmanned fighter. We were involved in a lot of really cool projects over the years!

Some of the MIG welding we did. I will have to hunt up some more pics - buried on one of my hard drives.

Did I mention I hate working, greasing CV’s? Well they are done, both side with new axles, greased and clocked. Also put the new main springs on, went 2.5.16.350, only went up 50lbs each side. Will see how it rises.
