Hurst Shifter

I installed a vintage Hurst Shifter in my 65 bug. The shifter, when setting in neutral rests to the right side of the plate. So it looks like it's listing that way. It feels like the spring is providing some tension to make it do that. Everything seems to work fine. Just wanted to know if that's how it should be/look. Thanks!

Yes, this is normal. I also have a Hurst "style" shifter and it does the same thing. This is by design. It helps prevent missed shifts and helps driver locate the gate for each gear. Just about every manual transmission has this feature.

I think the spring is there to prevent rattling like the stock shifter does sometimes. IMO, it doesn't help find any gears. Hard up against the wall on the right is where you will find 3rd and 4th. Same against the left wall for 1st and 2nd.
On some shifters, I have left that spring out.

I think It’s supposed to help with up shifts from 2nd to 3rd and reduce the chance of grinding 1st by mistake.
